Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) Assessment     scale

Knowing your RMR is the foundation of weight management.

The RMR assessment is conducted whilst relaxing comfortably in a chair and takes approximately 12 minutes. Your heart rate is continually monitored and your RMR measurements are obtained by analysing the gas exchange (CO2 and O2) during normal breathing. These measurements establish your resting caloric requirement - the precise number of calories your body needs to maintain its basic functions - and identifies from where the body is obtaining these calories, body fat or sugar.  A lifestyle correction is applied to give the total number of calories needed daily to maintain weight. A report is produced outlining all the data necessary to know exactly what daily calorie deficit is needed to lose weight over a period of time. Any other calories used during the day, through physical exercise, can be calculated by undertaking the exercise metabolic rate assessment.

Exercise Metabolic Rate (EMR) Assessment    weightl2

Knowing your EMR is the foundation of your cardiovascular fitness management.

The EMR assessment is comfortable and takes 8 to 12 minutes to complete. Using the same analysing equipment, it is performed during a session on a treadmill, stationary bike, rower, elliptical trainer or other exercise equipment. The assessor will start you off at a gentle pace and slowly increase your work rate until the required data is obtained. This does not involve an all-out effort. However, those clients who want to ascertain their max heart rate and VO2max, may exercise further. After a recovery period the
assessment is finished.

The EMR data shows

  • Exactly how many calories you are expending at any given heart rate
  • More importantly, it will tell where those calories are coming from, body fat or sugars
  • It identifies your 'aerobic base' - the highest heart rate at which fat is the dominant fuel
  • It pinpoints your anaerobic threshold
  • It provides a measured VO2 score at max heart rate (HR), sub max HR and, more importantly, your anaerobic threshold

Using the data from both the RMR and EMR assessments, a detailed analysis can be made of your unique metabolic profile. The assessor will provide you with a full report that accurately identifies your aerobic fitness and optimal exercise intensity levels. The report is used to create your own customized program that will help you to achieve your goals. Dependent upon those goals, your individualized program enables you to exercise at the intensity levels at which you are most efficient in burning stored fat, improve your cardiovascular fitness or increase your anaerobic threshold. A retest enables you to track your progression through your unique metabolic markers.
